Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage across Buncombe County and the surrounding Western North Carolina region, resulting in extensive tree loss, property damage, and disruption to local infrastructure and small businesses. The scale of fallen timber from the storm created both immediate cleanup challenges and long-term environmental concerns, as significant volumes of usable hardwood were at risk of being discarded, burned, or sent to landfills due to limited recovery capacity.

As a resident of Buncombe County and a United States military veteran, I directly witnessed the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in my community.
